THE NAME
MMC², or MMC2, which is easier to say and enter on a keyboard, stands for McLean Mobile Computing Crystals. Michael McLean has designed and created a new class of Information Technology products - Mobile Computing Crystals. For more information on Mobile Computing Crystals see the section Mobile Computing Crystals. For a more in depth coverage of the evolutionary path leading up to Mobile Computing Crystals see the section Mobile Computing Revolution. The exponent ie the little '2' conveys the power unleashed exponentially, (with the whole being greater than the sum of its parts), by combining the imagination, skills, abilities, both technical and conceptual, along with the selection and sourcing of the hardware components, that together comprise McLean Mobile Computing Crystals.
MMC2 MISSION
MMC2 researches, designs, develops, markets and implements Information Technology (IT) products. The MMC2 mission is to create a new paradigm for computer based products. The aim is to bring to the end-user, imaginative systems, that provide the power of a computer, combined with the simplicity of a mobile phone. The simplicity we strive for can best be described as the 'Device Approach'. It is illustrated by contrasting using an electronic calculator, with using a calculator app on a PC, to do some calculations. With the calculator - the device, you turn it on and use it. It is relatively simple and intuitive. You are not faced with the many other, sometimes confusing steps, that you have to navigate on the PC to achieve the same calculations. You do not have to worry about downloading or installing the app, or software updates. By choosing the calculator, you are leaving behind, waiting for the computer to boot up, and the many annoying, timewasting, and sometimes confusing messages and interruptions that can appear, and pop up on your screen, presumably requiring your understanding, and some sort of response. The Device Approach is that you have a particular object and it does a job. With the device, you are in the hands of the software engineer who designed your device specifically for this task. This is in contrast to being in the hands of Windows, along with all of its interruptions and popups etc. etc. Your involvement is kept to what is relevant and very easy to understand. This is a feature of the Device Approach, and it is a key component of the design philosophy behind MMC2 mobile computing crystals. At MMC2, we believe that the practical benefits, of well designed and written mobile computer applications, can be extended to a very wide range of marketplaces, and that these opportunities have barely been recognised, let alone tapped. It is our mission to address this shortfall in the availability of powerful and productive mobile computing applications. We consider much, not all, of the alternative content currently available, (mainly mobile phone apps) to be more in the areas of entertainment and 'hobbyists', as opposed to professionally produced and marketed, practical mobile computing software applications. We have gone a couple of levels further than just supplying mobile phone apps, by including mobile phone-like hardware platforms, that have additional capabilities such as on board roll printers. Our software applications, designed specifically for, and already installed on, carefully selected and sourced hardware platforms, provide fully integrated and ready to go (turn key) products - McLean Mobile Computing Crystals.
WHO IS MMC2
The Principal, Michael Joseph McLean, first became involved with computers in 1970 as a computer operator and EDP (Electronic Data Processing) trainee with John Lysaghts, a computer user, operating an IBM 360/20. He spent much of the 70s employed by NCR, a computer supplier, as a software specialist, including programming and systems analysis, a trainer, and eventually sales representative. At the time NCR were the dominant supplier of Cash Registers, Point of Sale terminals, and Accounting Machines, and a significant supplier of Computers. A major focus at this time was designing and supplying Computer Systems for the Retail Industry. He also had experience with other Point of Sale equipment suppliers including Sharp, and Data Terminal Systems. This included groundbreaking systems, for the time, involving POS terminals gathering, storing, and forwarding data to mainframes. He has many years of experience as a freelance computer programmer and systems analyst, and as a trainer. His formal qualifications, in addition to numerous computer qualifications, include completing a Bachelor of Arts degree at the University of Wollongong, and a Master of Letters at the University of Sydney. Both of these studies were in Philosophy. One field of research concerned drawing comparisons between human brains ('hardware') and minds('software'), with computer hardware processors and computer software. He has always been attracted to physically smaller computers and was first involved in Desktop Computers (PCs) when many thought that they were merely toys. This interest grew with the advent of Laptops and then Palmtops. He was quick to realise the potentials and opportunities afforded, when mobile phones became 'smart', ie had computers within them. The experience gained in being involved in both mainframe computer systems, as well as POS terminals and sophisticated Electronic Cash Register systems, has been invaluable, in providing the insights necessary to quality mobile systems design.

Delivery within Australia is by Australia Post and is expected to take 2 to 3 days. Delivery in Australia is free of charge.
Warranty of two years is provided from Australia. Warranty includes hardware and software components and is applicable when the product is used for the purposes intended and allowing for fair wear and tear. If you suspect that your product does not work properly, please notify MMC2 immediately by email and arrangements will be made from there. Where repairs or replacement are made under warranty conditions, there will be no charge to the customer for delivery in either direction.
After receiving a defective product, our warranty service will include visual inspection, normal wear and tear testing, maintenance, and functional product compliance testing. For Australian customers, defective products will be repaired or replaced within 7 days of being received by MMC2, and by Australia Post delivery. Customers will not be charged for the repair under warranty. However, if the returned product does not comply with the conditions of the warranty service, the customer may need to pay the appropriate testing, repair, and / or shipping.
